About Nicholas Mukhtar
Founder & Senior Business Management Consultant, Tera Strategies LLC
Nicholas Mukhtar founded Tera Strategies because he kept seeing the same problem: executives with strong businesses making decisions based on instinct when they could be making them based on systems. Based in Fort Lauderdale, his firm works with CEOs, family offices, medical directors, investors, and business owners on growth strategy, digital transformation, and operations.
His approach comes from an unusual background. Most business consultants come up through finance or tech. Nicholas came through public health, policy, and nonprofit leadership, then crossed into the private sector. That path gave him something specific: the ability to diagnose organizational problems the way an epidemiologist diagnoses systemic ones, examining the whole structure before prescribing a fix.

Building Healthy Detroit
In 2013, while still finishing his undergraduate degree at Wayne State University, Nicholas founded Healthy Detroit, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on community health equity in his hometown. It started small. Within four years, the organization had mobilized over $100 million in funding, built an annual operating budget of $15 million, and been named National Public Health Organization of the Year by the American Public Health Association. The 2014 U.S. Surgeon General’s Report featured it as one of only three organizations in the country to receive that recognition.
Mayor Mike Duggan appointed Nicholas to co-chair, and later chair, the Detroit Parks and Recreation Commission. He also served on the boards of the Men’s Health Foundation, Trinity Health System at St. Mary Mercy Livonia, the Michigan Parks and Recreation Association, and the Wayne State University School of Medicine External Advisory Board.
Washington, D.C. and Policy Work
After earning dual Master’s degrees in Public Policy and Public Health from Johns Hopkins University as a Bloomberg Fellow, Nicholas founded Healthy Communities, LLC, a D.C.-based public policy consulting practice. He advised senior policymakers on both sides of the aisle and contributed to the White House Office of American Innovation. He’s described his political approach as “apolitical,” focused on outcomes rather than party lines.
From Public Sector to Private
That cross-sector experience is what shapes Tera Strategies today. Nicholas doesn’t apply a single consulting framework to every client. He listens first, maps the system, and builds solutions around what he finds.
Core practice areas: Corporate strategy and business planning, operational process improvement, technology selection and digital transformation, family office governance and succession planning, and market expansion.
He’s particularly focused on family offices and wealth management practices, where he’s found that the biggest governance failures come from one specific gap: not bringing children and spouses into financial planning and decision-making early enough.
